Its biggest crime is just being super inoffensive, but I still can't call that much of a negative quality since most of the episodes are at the very least passable. It's all over the place, and it's why I think it's fair to call it DECENT, or above average. It's mostly aimless and never quite hits bullseye. This is one of the blandest, mediocre seasons of any show I've seen.
All it does is make me groan since these are jokes that I've seen people do way better online. Once again, too much of the dialogue is just spent pointing things out like cliches, and bad character tropes & storylines. Very few episodes here are actually funny, and that's because a lot of the jokes this season are more "meta" (please take this the wrong way). It's one of the most average things I've seen. That's really all I could take from this season, I didn't react that strongly to it. I'll say the jokes here are still way funnier than the ones in S3, but what does that really mean? Less than half the episodes got a good and above, meaning that the rest is just. The season started off promising, but after The Console, all the episodes had that same feeling S3 had where the plotlines were fine I guess but man, the jokes do not land that well. The thing is, season 5 leans a lot harder in S3's direction than the first two & S4, which I really do not appreciate. I've already stated what I expected from this season in my Gumball Season 4 Scorecard, but to reiterate: I thought that season 4 did a good job at balancing what S1-2 did and what S3 tried to do. The second season was numbered as a continuation of the first season, episodes 7 through 12.Gumball Season 5 is an odd one.
